HAND PRINTED DESIGNS ON FABRIC

Adire textile material adorned with hand printed African designs is considered to be a priceless piece of art. The hand printed design with Adire background is a viable work of art that preserve and promote our cultural heritage and art. Textile making is a branch of the applied art that has to do with utility, but this particular art piece could adorn the wall of our home just like the paintings, serving just aesthetics purpose. The process entails dyeing the fabric first to add a colourful background then it is embellished with the hand printed designs. MATERIALS Mesh and the chemicals, sensitizers and bicomate, Fabric (Adire fabric or white fabric to be dyed), Colour (Opaque ink or textile ink), Squeegee, Black permanent marker and pencil and Engine oil THE PROCESS STEP 1: Prepare your background in a dye solution, by dipping the fabric. You allow it to dry before proceeding to printing. STEP 2: Make your design on a typing paper, like the A4 sheet using pencil. Then trace it out with a black permanent marker or black ink. STEP 3: Apply engine oil on the paper and rob it with foam until you can see through (a transparent effect) STEP 4: Prepare your mesh with the sensitizers and bicomate in a dark room. You wait until it is dried and transfer the design on it through the heat transfer from the Sun, and then wash it in a bowl of water after 2 minutes. STEP 5: You do the printing by placing the mesh on the fabric, pour the colour inside the mesh and spread with squeegee. STEP 6: You repeated this process until you cover your intended covering spaces. MODEL:The students of Badagry Junior Grammar School, Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria.

KIDS ART: FATHER AND DAUGHTER IN THE STUDIO

In the studio is Bowofoluwa Fahuwa and her dad working with oil colour medium to paint a butterfly on a canvas. God has given each child talent to explore either in Visual art, Music or Drama. Meanwhile these kids need a mentor and a conducive environment to help nurture their intrinsic talents. Showcasing the beautiful Butterfly as painted by Bowo Fahuwa on this web page, I believe will propel and inspire other kids to explore their talent in Visual Art.

KIDS ART: EWA OKIKIOLU'S FIGURE PAINTING

Children’s early years are a time of learning. But much more are also time of exploration, developing imagination and a sense of self. A wonderful way to explore, create and express oneself is through the visual arts. Parents and teachers can help their wards and students harness their innate abilities by providing a conducive atmosphere and platform for artistic engagement. Children love new experiences and to depict images and ideas based upon their experiences.

It is amazing to see Ewa Okikiolu engaged in her own creativity, smiling while applying colours on the drawn images of her and her brother, a set of twins playing football on a playground. She is so proud to share her art with the other kids across the globe.

KIDS ART: MIXED MEDIA ART OF FOPE BADARU

What is Mixed media art? Media is a plural word for medium. Medium in art means material for execution of an art works. Mixed media is when you use two or more materials for the creation of an art piece.

Here in the studio, Miss Fope Badaru has created series of art works using mixture of glue and acrylic on canvas using an extruder and set of brushes.

PROCESS
STEP 1: You make your drawings on the canvas or your choice of surface which could be paper or hard paper board.

STEP 2: Mix the glue with acrylic of the colour of your choice on a container or palette. You may mix more than one colours depending on your design or drawing.

STEP 3: When you have done with the mixing, you may now transfer the substance into your extruder. You may improvise an extruder by using used engine oil container or a pure water sachet.

STEP 4: Apply the coloured-glue on your design or drawing until your intended working space is covered.

STEP 5: The finished work may be framed before displaying it for public view.

COLLAGE PAPER BALLS from RECYCLED MATERIALS with the AFRICAN KIDS

Later this year, Olusegun Adeniyi will be creating COLLAGE PAPER BALLS from RECYCLED MATERIALS with the less privileged kids from African's public schools and orphanage homes.

My intent for this project is to build environmental art projects with the less privileged kids to increase eco-awareness, nurture creativity, strengthen community engagement and participatory in global sport.

D’ASOROGI (AN ENVIRONMENTAL ART) WITH THE KIDS

This philosophical title means “creating or wearing garments for trees. It is otherwise called installing garments on trees. Ordinarily, trees don’t wear clothe, but the natural bark. Some ugly at sight, some are fascinating and friendly, some are badly harvested by man for food or concoction or decoction used for natural health. By implications installing garments make trees wear new look, gives a sigh of relief to viewers and are drawn closer to view, appreciate or sit on them. Standing trees are installed together with seats all wearing garments. It could serve as aesthetics and functional where people seat and relax.
Here is Mr. John Adenle assisted by Lanre Tejuosho and Olusegun Adeniyi engaging the pupils from FCE Abeokuta Staff School in the art of decorative forms to beautify the public places. The essence of this project was to encourage community oriented projects among the young ones. These kids offered to their community form of aesthetic 0btained from waste cellophanes and logs of intended firewood.

MATERIALS
- waste Industrial prints (cellophane)
- Gun tackler machine/pins
- Dummier machine
- Sanding machine
PROCESS
The kids wrap the tree or the woods with the waste cellophane and fix it with the Gun tackler. They do this until the part they intended for their project is covered. The wrapped logs are then arranged in manner attractive enough for relaxation.
